Adoption Information

All interested parties must complete an application to adopt any pet from GBHS. To have an idea on how to apply online, please click on the video link to the left. You may complete from any device, and you do not have to install the app - just continue in the browser. 

You must be at least 18 years old to adopt. 

A property search is included when your application is processed.  If you rent a property, you must provide the appropriate contact person's information so permission to adopt is verified by GBHS staff. This also verifies if there are any breed, weight limit or number of pets restrictions. 

When processing your application, we will verify the vaccine history of your pets listed to ensure they are current with at least the rabies vaccine. Please make sure you list all your pets. 

If you are visiting during business hours, your application can be processed immediately. If you submit an online application, it will be processed the next business day. Once the application is approved, you may take home the pet immediately, or, if you are more than 2 hours away and work during the week, you will be required to pick up the Saturday of that week. A reservation will be applied to the animal you are interested in adopting. 

We do not ship any of our pets for many safety reasons and require all adopters to meet their pets at our shelter. 

Adoptions of any pet will also require a health certificate to cross state lines. This is a state law requirement. 

An additional $100.00 fee is assessed as the animals will be seen by a licensed veterinarian and provided the vaccine history for the certificate.
